For more than 10 years, one of the most loved experiences in Thailand was our Lake House adventure. In May, this fine hideaway sadly burned down to the ground.
It was a shocking day for us and everyone who loved the place from their own travels. Hundreds of our travelers have commented on the loss and shared their memories of Lake House. Many are keen to know when we are to operate again.
We are thrilled to announce that we now have a new adventure to offer as a replacement for Lake House: We call it The Lake Explorer.
By the mountains of the Burma border, in the middle of a lush, tropical forest is a lake beyond the ordinary. It’s a scenario of stunning cliffs with wild monkeys, floating islands of water lilies, breathtaking eagles on the hunt, flushing waterfalls, foraging hornbills and fishermen in fragile canoes. A place where Burma touches Thailand. The locals here are mostly from the Karen or Mon tribes who years back moved freely across the borders here. This is the scene we have chosen for our new floating basecamp.
Tranquility and adventure – and really good food
The Lake Explorer is your new floating hideaway, where you enjoy comfort, serenity and adventure in the middle of sheer remoteness. A Lake Explorer journey serves you a balanced mix of explorations and time to lay back. Night and day our staff is ready to make you feel comfortable, in their own informal way. And the food on board is great!
Every day the basecamp anchors somewhere new. Enjoy the mountain backdrop by sunset, kayak to a small island nearby, hang out by the mini-pool in the stern. Yes, The Lake Explorer is a perfect journey for adventurous families – as well as it is for travelers without kids. You decide the level of adventurousness.
On this one-of-a-kind 4 days long adventure, we experience the Thai nature from its most serene side, yet still get a glimpse and insight into the life of some of the ethnic groups living in the border area. And in the southern part of the lake, we visit some outstanding places: Coconut island, Bee Island, Pilog and Bo Ong.
It’s easy to go along, since the adventure both starts and ends in Bangkok. That also makes it very practical when you want to combine it with other Go Beyond adventures.
